Private Press Volume One

Presented by Skylab Radio and Poor Toms Gin.
Live from Melbourne's Stay Soft Studio

The first in our series of intimate floor shows presented in partnership with Poor Toms Gin. Private Press parties offer a rare and up-close look at some of the most exciting musical projects coming out of Melbourne and Australia. Our inaugural session presented treasured Melbourne’s 30/70 Collective. The local neo-soul outfit having just released their latest full-length on Bradley Zero’s South London Rhythm Section imprint, a label consistently championing the Antipodean jazz, broken beat, and (neo-)soul scenes.

The 'Fluid Motion'  LP sees drummer Ziggy Zeitgeist (Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange) hone in further on broken beat percussion, beautifully accompanied by the warm tones of Allysha Joy’s sublime vocal work.

30/70 [LIVE]

The scene was serene indeed for our second guests, coastal psych-pop outfit Swazi Gold, as they played to an intimate audience spread out on floor cushions sipping negronis, bathed in the beautiful warmth of Hope Audio’s vintage Klipsch soundsystem.

Swazi Gold have recently released on Maryos Syawish and Aless Peach’s Research Records, a relatively new addition to the landscape focusing on more organic and guitar-based sounds than Syawish’s Butter Sessions imprint. Research have received considerable praise for canvassing an impressive spread of material, from unearthing hitherto slept-on solo recordings from CAN vocalist Damo Suzuki, to releasing Mildlife’s groundbreaking “Phase” LP.
