Skylab Radio Bandcamp Friday Roundup # 1

An excellent collab between Melbourne locals Morgan Wright and Nenagh (name a more iconic duo). The second track 'New Issue' is the one for me. Heaps of wubby bass and sultry vocal samples overlaid and it's HOT.

Putting the 'band' back in Bandcamp here (lol) with one of my favourite local Melbourne bands. Great for a day time listen, preferably in sun (plus beers). Adore 'Happiness', brings a little tear to my highly sensitive/emotional eye.

Following on from the successful first volume of the compilation, Munich-based outfit and label Public Possession release “Chill Pill II”. Featuring the likes of Andras, Sui Zhen, Vanessa Worm, Bell Towers, and Optimo’s JD Twitch, the 19-track slow burner presents a collection of chilled out musical contributions to perfectly soundtrack the tail end of stage 4 lockdown.

OK EG is the musical collaboration of local artists Lauren Squire and Matthew Wilson. Their debut EP, out on Melbourne’s Steeplejack Records (who curate Faultlines here on the ‘lab), is a well thought out and immersive sonic experience. 5 months after its release, it has me continuously coming back and strikes with new inspiration and greater enjoyment each time.

New local label Southern Exposure presents Jon Jones’ debut release, Warrandyte Bridge Reno. A stunning collection of downtempo trance, the tracks work together to create a distinctly Australian sound that transports you deep into the doof.

Melbourne's Reptant makes his debut on Amsterdam label Kalahari Oyster Cult. This release makes me miss the club. It's a bit trippy, a bit electro, a bit bleepy. The Roza Terenzi remix slaps.

I'm a little bit obsessed with India Jordan. On their new EP 'For You', released on London label Local Action, India stays true to their joyous, eclectic and hi-nrg sound.

Panic/Desire is the latest from Melbourne's Simona Castricum. It's Simona's third album and perhaps her most mature and impressive release yet. The album combines thoughtful songwriting, bold production and powerful drumming into a wonderfully cohesive release. A contender for local album of the year!

Doomshop Records is a favourite of mine for raw underground rap with scuzzy Memphis-style instrumentals. They continue to deliver fire on this compilation with some eternal heaters from MC Holocaust, DJ Akoza and Kaine.

Another alias from Special Guest DJ - who's half the team behind the stunning xpq? label with D. Tiff. We wub to see a Berliner's nasty take on dubstep. Its' rolling energy and tripped out growls are everything. Cannot. Wait. To. Play. It. Loud.

Debut release on K-Lone's Wych imprint. It's a Spring ting. Play it in the garden and let your heart fill with love with the warming breeze softly kissing your cheeks. (Apologies I'm in an iso Jane Austen addiction pit).
