Kukunda- Episode 1 (Emwe/One).

Kukunda, meaning to love/like, explores the relationship between Blackness and its expression through techno music. Since its inception, techno has been a way for black people to find freedom, connection, and to resist a white supremacist society.

My family, the Banyankole people, are from the hills of Bushyeni in Western Uganda, where music and dance have been in our blood since the beginning of time. Techno way is a way of connecting with and expressing my identity and heritage.

This episode explores rhythm (ekiteero) and drums (engoma). Two core elements of techno, as well as being deeply ingrained in many cultures across the African continent.
